On 4th of November 2015, CESL’s Assistant Professor Monika Prusinowska and one of the CESL’s alumnus, CESL Vis Moot Team member of 2012/13 Jiang Xuan, associate of Jun He Law Firm as of today, had the pleasure to be a part of the Young Singapore International Arbitration Centre (YSIAC) Beijing Advocacy Roadshow. The event organized by the YSIAC aimed at practicing cross-examination techniques in international commercial arbitration and was run by Mr Gary Born - one of the world's most preeminent authorities on international commercial arbitration and international litigation, the current President of Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC).
After the welcome speeches delivered by Dr Yu Jianlong, Vice-Chairman and Secretary-General, of CIETAC and CMAC and Ms Lim Seok Hui, CEO of SIAC and SIMC, the workshop started. The mock case was divided into two rounds in which Monika Prusinowska and Jiang Xuan acted as fact witnesses cross-examined by various international arbitration practitioners. The cross-examination was conducted before the arbitration tribunal consisting of Mr. Gary Born, Mr Cao Lijun - Partner, Zhong Lun Law Firm, Ms Ariel Ye - Partner, King & Wood Mallesons, Mr Tao Jingzhou - Partner of Dechert LLP and Prof. Lu Song from the China Foreign Affairs University.
The workshop was following the SIAC conference of 3rd of November, which also saw CESL’s participation. The conference highlighted the use of international arbitration for resolving cross-border disputes and investment protection and provided the participants with key insights on the latest developments in international arbitration, including those specifically relevant to the Chinese legal landscape.
Thank you goes to Mr Hu Ke, partner in the dispute resolution group of Jingtian & Gongcheng, Beijing for his invitation.
