China-Europe Academic Conference 2015-Legal Reform of Market Economy

On 5th and 6th November 2015, CESL together with the Research Team of Legal Reform of Market Economy at CUPL and the Law School of the University of Hamburg held its international conference on "Legal Reform of Market Economy" at the Beijing Friendship Hotel. More than 150 leading scholars, government officials, diplomats, business delegates and lawyers participated in the conference.

During the opening ceremony the Chinese chairman of the CESL Joint Managerial Committee, former Chinese minister of justice ZHANG Fusen, the director of the CUPL Graduate School Professor LI Shuguang, Lars GRONVALD, head of the cooperation department of the EU delegation in Beijing and Prof. Armin HARTJE, European Co-Dean of CESL delivered opening remarks. SHI Xiaomin, Vice-chairman of the China Society of Economic Reform, Economist, Member of Chinese Economy 50 Forum, LI Shuguang and Frank STEPHEN Emeritus Professor at the University of Manchester, Former Advisor to the Justice 1 Committee of the Scottish Parliament, Former Advisor to the Joint Committee of House of Commons and House of Lords delivered key note speeches on topics of law, economic reform and the Chinese new normal economy.

The conference lasted for two days, was devided into six sub-topics, discussing namely: 1. Market access – the reform of company law, 2. Market exit – the reform of insolvency law, 3. Market transaction – the reform of securities law, 4. Market supervision and anti-monopoly law, 5. law of state owned assets and 6. Judicial Reform of Market Economy. Each topic involved presentations by Chinese and European scholars, practitioners and experts. After presentations, the panels were open to questions by participants and to academic discussion.
