European Executive Co-Dean speaks at 16th China Annual Conference for International Education

The 16th China International Education Annual Conference hosted by China Education Association for International Exchange started on 23rd of October 2013. A delegation of CESL was invited to contribute to this year's "Symposium on China-European Union Higher Education Cooperation" as part of the Conference at the China International Convention Centre. It marked the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the People’s Republic of China and the European Union through discussion of the achievements of cooperation and the prospects for future cooperation in the sphere of higher education. Dr. Clemens Richter, European Executive Co-dean of China-EU School of Law (CESL) delivered a speech on “China-EU School of Law as a bridge of legal dialogue between China and Europe”, presenting the developments of CESL. Ms. Pan Chenwei, programme assistant of CESL, attended the conference as well.

Mr. Yan Bingchen, Director of the International Education Section of the International Department, Ministry of Education, P.R.China, Prof. Ding Yuan, Vice President and Dean of China Europe International Business School (CEIBS), Prof. Michel Farine, European Co-Dean of China-EU Institute for Clean and Renewable Energy(CEICARE), Prof. Shen Weiqi, Provost of the University of Nottingham Ningbo China and Dr. Clemens Richter had a successful panel discussion on the topic of Reflection on the Experience of Establishing and Developing Joint Institutions in Higher Education and Research. Mr. Yan Bingchen affirmed the education quality of 13 jointly run school in China, including CESL, and emphasized that further introduction of high-quality resources from abroad should be further enhanced.

In his speech, Dr. Richter gave an overview of CESL’s activities in the fields of teaching, research and professional training. He emphasized that linking the different fields and developing a true community of mutual teaching and learning contributes significantly for building a stable bridge for legal dialogue between China and the EU.

During the conference, representatives from CEIBS, CESL and ICARE, the three China-EU jointly run schools have exchanged ideas, seeking for further cooperation.

The conference brought together specialists in the higher-education sphere from both China and the EU, as well as representatives of the Chinese Ministry of Education and diplomatic missions of EU Member States, including the head of delegation of the EU in China, H.E. Hans Dietmar Schweisgut, Jan O’Sullivan T.D., Minister for Education and Skills, Ireland and Vito Borrelli, Head of Sector Jean Monnet & China Desk, European Commission.
