On September 28th a delegation of CUPL was invited to the Great Hall of the People to join the foreign experts' reception commemorating the 65th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. CESL was represented by Dr. Clemens Richter, European Executive Co-dean, Prof. Susan-Gale Wintermuth, Assistant Professor Monika Prusinowska, Assistant Professor Liane Schmiedel and Ms. Chen Yingfang, Secretary of the foreign affairs of CESL.
The reception was opened by a speech of LIU Yunshan, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and secretary of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee.
In his speech he extended greetings on behalf of the Chinese government and of President Xi Jinping. He summarised the great achievements China has made during the past 65 years and valued the role of foreign experts in the fields of business, science and technology, education and culture. With a view to law he voiced the need to “continue to comprehensively implement the rule of law as a fundamental principle, promote fact-based legislation, tighten law enforcement, ensure judicial justice and enhance law-abiding consciousness of the public, so as to build a socialist country governed by law.” In his closing remarks he emphasised that we live in an increasingly inter-related world. He stated that “China will always be a learning nation, ready to learn from other nations around the world with an open mind. We shall double our efforts to introduce talents and intelligence from overseas, trying to attract more outstanding professionals (...).” The speech ended with a toast of all participants to the 65th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic.
The speech was followed by common dinner giving all participants the opportunity to enjoy Chinese cuisine and the friendly atmosphere.
On behalf of the foreign teaching staff of CESL, the European Executive Co-Dean expresses his gratitude for the invitation and extends holiday greetings to all CESL members.
