The Master of European and International Law (MEIL) is a one-year programme leading to an LL.M. degree conferred by the University of Hamburg (UHH). It is taught in English at the China-EU School of Law at the China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) in Beijing. This is a cooperative programme between the University of Hamburg and the China University of Political Science and Law. The LL.M. programme is registered with the Chinese authorities and fully recognised in China, the EU and worldwide. The programme prepares students for a wide variety of international careers working for multinational law firms, companies, organisations or government authorities. Globalisation and China’s rise to an economic world power are increasing the demand for legal professionals who combine a high command of European and international law with a special expertise in Chinese legal matters both in China and Europe. With a strong focus on legal training in a Chinese-European environment, the master’s programme boosts the students’ ability to analyse legal problems from an international perspective.
The Master of European and International Law programme was launched in 2008 and the first students graduated in 2010. Since then, students have come from approximately 25 different countries to study this LL.M. programme. The programme begins in September and ends the following August. Professors come from 13 different partner universities in Europe and represent the major legal systems.
